How it works

Three steps, no surprises

The order matters — you know the price before anyone turns up with a mixer.

  1. Tell us the job

Call or send the form with a couple of photos. We'll ask about the room, the current surface and roughly when you want it doing.

  2. Get a fixed price

We look at the job, then quote a fixed figure. Nothing gets added later unless you ask for more work.

  3. We board, skim and clean down

Floors sheeted, work done to the agreed date, waste taken with us and the room left ready for your decorator.

Why Apex

Fixed prices

You get a figure before we start, and that's the figure you pay unless the job itself changes.

Local to Wakefield

Both trades covered

Internal skim and external render from the same team, so nobody's waiting on another contractor.

Left clean

Sheeted before, cleaned down after, waste taken away. The room comes back ready to decorate.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover my area?

We're based in Wakefield and work across the district and the wider West Yorkshire area — Horbury, Ossett, Sandal, Outwood, Stanley, Normanton, Castleford, Pontefract, Dewsbury, Mirfield, Morley and Leeds among others.

If you're just outside that, call and ask — we'll tell you straight away whether we can get to you.

How much does plastering cost?

It depends on the size of the room, the state of the existing surface and whether it needs boarding first. A single ceiling is a very different job to a full house re-skim.

We don't quote blind. Send photos or let us take a look, and you'll get a fixed price with nothing added afterwards.

How long before I can paint new plaster?

Give it time to dry out fully — usually somewhere between four days and a couple of weeks depending on thickness, ventilation and the time of year. The colour goes from dark pink to an even pale finish when it's ready.

Start with a watered-down mist coat rather than going straight on with a full-strength emulsion, or the paint can peel.

Can you skim over artex?

In most cases yes — the artex is prepared and sealed, then skimmed flat. Where the pattern is very heavy or the surface is loose, overboarding gives a better and longer-lasting result.

We'll tell you which one your ceiling needs when we look at it.

Do I need to move furniture out?

Clear what you reasonably can and take down curtains, pictures and light fittings if possible. Anything left gets moved to the middle and sheeted up.

Floors are covered, and we clean down and take the waste with us.

Can you do just one wall or one ceiling?

Yes. Single walls, one ceiling, patch repairs after electrics or a leak — all fine. Give us a ring and describe it.

What's the difference between plastering and rendering?

Plastering is the internal finish — a thin skim coat that leaves walls and ceilings smooth and ready to decorate.

Rendering is the external version, a thicker weatherproof coat applied to the outside of a building. We do both.

Which render would you use on my house?

It depends on the substrate and the look you're after. Sand and cement is the traditional option and gets painted; silicone thin-coat and monocouche are through-coloured, so the colour goes all the way through and needs no painting.

We'll talk you through what suits your walls and your budget before anything is agreed.

Can you fix cracked or blown render?

Yes. Cracks get cut out and filled, and hollow or blown sections are taken back to a sound edge and made good. If the damage is widespread, re-rendering the whole elevation often works out better than patching.

Either way we'll tell you honestly which makes more sense.

How do I get a quote?

Call 01484 243139, or fill in the form on this site. Photos of the room or the elevation help us give you a realistic figure faster.

Quotes are free and there's no obligation.
